Baseball Salary Cap
It is time for baseball to add a hard cap. Red Sox principal owner John Henry once again made this plea. He first made this statement 5 years ago in response to the Yankees having an unfair advantage compared to every other team in Major League Baseball. After seeing how this offseason has gone down it is undeniable. In the current marketplace every team is afraid to make big signings due to the recession. The Yankees have made 3 of the largest signings in MLB history in the same environment. It is like this team is on another planet monetarily not bothered by the issues of mere mortals. I know a cap is unlikely to take place under the weak leadership of Selig, but it needs to happen for the health of the game. MLB is the only major american sports league that doesn't have one and the competition is the most lopsided. If one good thing could come out of the current economic crisis it would be a MLB hard salary cap.
